[network performance management]
PRIME is a managed network reporting environment that collects SNMP statistics from network devices and merges it with the asset information of those devices to provide performance metrics on IP and broadband (ATM, Frame-Relay, Giga-Ethernet) networks. PRIME is a centralized environment providing near real-time reporting on the performance of all types of network services to internal operations and external customers. The reporting variations include; number of devices or circuits in operation, total bandwidth used, peak usage, failures or faults, etc. By merging the network traffic/usage data with data within the asset database(s), all reporting functionality includes hierarchical views by multiple dimensions like: By Location (National, Provincial, and City), By Service, By Device Vendor/Type, By Point of Presence, etc. The Prime infrastructure is comprised of a web server, 3 databases (Oracle on multiple hardware technologies and versions) and a data collector. The web application is generated using integrated oracle PL/SQL, java servlet, JSP and java applet technologies to provide an easy to use web front end that is completely data driven. The web interface is dynamic and content is updated automatically with no added interaction from the development team. A large number of reports are accessible to the clients tracking certain statistics down to the 5, 10, 15 minutes basis with hourly, daily, weekly and monthly aggregations and summaries also being generated. The automated routines retrieve, consolidate/merge and report on data without any need for human interaction. Automated alarms notify the support community of problems. As well, certain network conditions can be automatically checked and alarm notifications generated if device outages occur or maximum thresholds are reached. |
